Pennsylvania Wage and Hour Laws

Except for those explicitly exempted by legislation, all employees are covered, with the exception of agricultural laborers (other than seasonal farm workers). Employees in executive, administrative, professional, and outside sales positions are also exempt if specific conditions are satisfied.

Pennsylvania Payroll for Employers

Wage payment laws in Pennsylvania require employers to pay wages within 15 days following the conclusion of a pay month. Unless statutory rules or industry tradition dictate otherwise, overtime payments are paid in the next pay period.

Pennsylvania Income Tax Withholding

Employers in Pennsylvania are required to deduct state income tax from their employees’ paychecks and send the money to the Revenue Department.

Every employer who pays wages to employees and has an office or does business in Pennsylvania is required to deduct state income tax from each payment of wages. Tax must be deducted from resident workers’ salaries for services rendered inside or outside of Pennsylvania, as well as from nonresident employees’ earnings for services rendered within the state.
