Montana Wage and Hour Laws

Employees covered by Montana’s minimum wage statute must be paid $8.75 per hour. Exceptions apply to small-business employees and farmworkers, as well as:

  • apprentices or learners for a period of up to 30 days;
  • Learners under the age of 18 may work on farms for up to 180 days if they are paid at least half the minimum wage; and
  • direct vendors

Montana Payroll for Employers

Employers subject to Montana’s wage payment statute are required to pay wages within 10 business days following the end of a pay period. Employees who are not present on payday must be compensated on the spot.
